"We must be steady enough in ourselves, to be open and to let the winds of
life blow through us, to be our breath, our inspiration; to breathe with them, mobile and soft in the
limberness of our bodies, in our agility, our ability, as it were, to dance, and yet to stand upright."
- T.S. Eliot
Jeff Sutherland about Scrum origins: "SCRUM is an Agile Software Development Process. Jeff Sutherland first
applied the concepts of Scrum to software development at Easel Corporation in 1993. Working with Ken Schwaber,
Scrum emerged as a formal process published at OOPSLA'96. Jeff and Ken extended and enhanced Scrum at many
software companies and IT organizations. In 1995, Mike Beedle started Scrumming and worked with Linda Rising
and others to publish the PLOP Scrum pattern in 1998."
Scrum is a minimal set of practices, that embrace as a core, the idea of frequent inspection and adaption.
As such Scrum requires from project management, more work and effort to obtain a better result.
I try to meet on a regular basis with other ScrumMasters throughout the world, like for example, when
attending the next Scrum Gathering, to exchange
thoughts, ideas and advance the art of Scrum further.
In Switzerland unfortunately there are still not many ScrumMasters. Maybe this has to do with the cautious attitude
of the Swiss to all things new ("Die Schweiz ist halt ein spezielles Land!"). But we are working on it:
We have now - with Joseph Pelrine - formed a loose group of Scrum enthusiasts (Certified Scrum Masters) called the Swiss
CSM Group (see the external link below), that tries to exchange experience made in the field and share war stories.
